Classes

A note about our classes: Bindi Community Yoga is committed to being a studio for everyone and EVERY BODY. All levels are welcome in all classes (unless specifically noted for a workshop or series) and each practice is a personal one which you are not only welcome, but encouraged to get the practice that YOUR body needs each day. Our teachers will help guide you if you are recovering from an injury/surgery or are looking to take your practice in a new direction for any reason.

Yoga is a journey home to the self; to the spiritual self, the conscious self and the physical self. As our practice grows and with it the awareness we have of our own body, we are able to customize our practice each and every time we come to the mat to give ourselves the practice we need. We are here to help guide you in that process. All asanas, breath-work and meditation practices which are offered are simply that, offered. You choose to take which work for you and feel good in your body and leave the rest behind or perhaps for another day.

Hatha

Hatha yoga is the name given to practicing physical yoga asanas, usually in some sort of sequence, to prepare the body for meditation. In our Hatha classes you can expect a slower-pace where each posture is held for 5 breaths or more. Hatha is a great place to start if you are unfamiliar with the asanas or are looking for a great opportunity to deepen the meditative element of your practice. Available to all levels. Breath-work and/or meditation practices will be offered. Classes are set to 105° unless otherwise marked.

Vinyasa

Vinyasa is a practice which connects your breath to the asanas practiced to create a “flow”, or more dynamic practice. You can expect a faster paced and challenging practice, but, as with any class, everything is simply offered and it is up to each student to take what resonates and leave the rest. Pranayama (breath-work) is an integral part of the vinyasa practice and meditation is offered in each class. Classes are set to 95° unless otherwise marked.

Slow Flow

Slow flow is a vinyasa class that has been slowed down. Not as slow as Hatha, but considerably slower than moving with the breath as we do in typical vinyasa classes. Slow does not mean "easy" however. Holding postures and moving slowly builds internal heat and strengthens muscles more efficiently than faster flow classes. This class is a great way to customize your practice to make it either more challenging or restorative depending on your needs for the day. This class is available to all levels. Breath-work and/or mediation practices will be offered. Classes are set between 90° and 100°.

Yin

Yin is offered in our hot room with the heaters turned off. The practice is a short series of asanas held for 3-5 minutes (occasionally longer or shorter). Yin is a practice which allows the body to settle into and work with the subtler tissues of the body; the fascia, ligaments, tendons, and other deep tissues. It is perhaps the best way for us to nourish and support our joints, spine, and lymphatic health. This class is available to every level. Breath-work and/or meditation will be offered.
